Day 1
Learn how to identify, harvest, process and create pottery with wild, locally sourced clay! Together we will process clay, make our own primitive tools and learn a variety of hand-building techniques to create authentic wild clay pottery. Then we will decorate our pots using natural textures and pigmented slips.
Day 2
Learn how to primitively fire your pottery without a kiln! Together we will prepare and build an above ground, pit fire while learning safety precautions and techniques to aid in a successful firing. After the firing we will preserve our pots with a natural, local sealant.

Clay tells a story of the past, invites us into the present and brings gifts into the future. Humans have been playing with clay since the dawn of time. Originally pottery was created using local materials and simple tools but over the years it has shifted into an overcomplicated, expensive and heavily mechanized process. Literally and figuratively our ancestors are in Earth’s clay rich soil and this workshop is an opportunity for us to re-connect with our humanity by honoring our ancestors and the natural gifts of Planet Earth.
