FAQs
Do you live in there?
Yes, Minimus is my home and the way I choose to live my life. Simple, connected, peaceful and joyous.
No, but do you really live in there?
Yes REALLY! I actually live here VERY comfortably without being tied to the grid and in a small space by myself.
How do you go to the bathroom in there?
Well, I have similar anatomy to you so I trust you get that much. As for what my waste products go into… I use a Nature’s Head Composting Toilet and I absolutely love it and highly recommend it! It is not only water free but also odor free. What is so great about the design is that it separates liquid waste from solid waste, which is the major culprit, or the stink. It also has a built in fan (that runs off of electricity which is solar in my case) that dehydrates the solid waste while simultaneously being vented outside. I begin by adding about 1 cups water and ¼ white vinegar to the liquid tank for odor control and about 2 gallons of peat moss or coconut fiber to the solid tank to increase the speed of decomposition. For one person occupancy I empty the liquid tank about every 5 days and solid tank about once a month. I continue the composting process outside to create humanure!
What exactly does off-grid mean?
Off-grid means that the house is not tied to any public utilities. I never purchase them when I play monopoly so I guess I just stuck with that theory. So in turn I am responsible for harvesting and storing my own natural resources and I wouldn’t have it any other way! It makes me so much more connected to what is going on outside and so much more mindful of my usage. I am powered by sun and rain and so is Minimus. Minimus has 6 solar panels and a 24 volt 3.6 kilo watt battery system. I collect the rain and am able to old 50 gallons internally and 50 gallons externally. So thats right, I do not pay for utilities!!!!
