How To Make Oat Milk
Oat milk is gaining in popularity and it is easy to see why from an environmental, taste, health, and allergy perspective. Dairy milk is harsh on the environment and there are many other plant-based options now that are all around better in my opinion.
My 2 favs are hemp and oat. I think hemp packs a bit more punch when it comes to nutrients but I find oat to be a little tastier, easier to find and cheaper. You can find oat milk in nearly all major grocery stores these days and if you are lucky you may even find oat milk creamer which is heavenly (especially if it is a cardboard container and not plastic). The good news is even if you can’t find oat milk or creamer at your local grocer I am sure you can at least find oats which means you can do the milkin’ at home and here’s how.
How To Make Oat Milk
What you need:
2 cups water
½ organic oats
1 tsp raw organic honey or maple syrup or 2 dates (pitted)
Pinch of salt
Blender
Strainer or cheesecloth
LIdded jar
Tape
Sharpie
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in the blender
Blend (timing depends on strength of blender)
Strain 2x
Properly label jar with date and store in refrigerator for up to 3 days
I prefer to make small batches because it does not last too long in the fridge. I also prefer to use my oat pulp. I often add it to smoothies, baking or sometimes I just eat it straight up!!!
