On the Road Again

Off-grid tiny house living is most definitely a unique lifestyle. Not only because of the obvious reasons like itty-bitty living space, minimal possessions, creating nearly zero waste, composting your own shit, harvesting electricity from the sun, water from the rain and food from the seeds you plant but also emotionally. When I first built the house I was traveling with it often. I got pretty used to following my tiny house down the road moving from place to place every few weeks. But after a year or so, I decided to hunker down a bit more to really get to know the house and its systems. Like any relationship it takes time, patience, understanding and compromise to grow together. And Minimus and I have done just that. She is my sanctuary. She makes me feel comforted and safe. She makes me smile. She makes me a better human.

Last week, after two years in one location it came time to move on. I noticed the anxiety building, “Am I going to be able to find someone to tow my house? Is it going to tow OK? Is it going to break? What am I going to do with the extra stuff I have collected?” But as the day approached, sure enough I found someone to tow the house, it didn’t break and I securely packed or donated my things. The move went seamlessly. Minimus traveled like a champ! And it reminded me once again how much I love this lifestyle. I love not leaving my home, it is an extension of my body. I love change, mobility and flexibility. I love the amazing people that are open to alternative lifestyles and welcome me onto their property. I’m so grateful for all of the kind humans, friends, family and acquaintances that help me make my dream my reality. Thank you!
