Joy in the Time of Corona
“One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things.”
Henry Miller
We’re living in some challenging, interesting, wild times. Things feel unstable, fear and insecurity seem to be trying to weasel their way into our psyche from every direction. As a self employed artist and educator, I make my living in various ways, most involving some form of contact with others, so now my options have been, like many others, limited. Please don’t get me wrong, I still have wonderful projects that I can safely and responsibly create (check out my Peace Gardens for starters), which I am eternally grateful for. But this pandemic is changing us and forcing a recalibration. What’s that quote? Evolve or get off the pot?
So I sat down and did some thinking after a long conversation with my Spirit Sister. And not the half-assed kind either, I’m talking the heavy, visceral, pull your heart out and look it in the eye kind of thinking. I asked myself some big questions, questions like, what do I want? What do I want my business to do? What do I want to cram in my mouth with these last few chocolate chips? How do I want to spend the time that I have graciously been granted in this body? And dammit, if the same answer didn’t arise for every question: I want to spread joy! Except question 3, that answer was walnuts and dried cranberries, because then it’s more like a candy bar.
Joy, my friends! I want to spread joy within my own being, with loved ones, with community, with strangers, with plants and animals, with the sun and the moon. I want the joy to be seen in my creations, to be heard in the teachings and to be felt in all of you. I want to spread joy by sharing things I have learned thus far and to simply continue on the path of learning and sharing, sharing and growing. I want to continuously learn and share ways to live a creative, healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Maybe the medium in which I achieve this is altered, but the message remains the same. So, I’m beginning down a new road with this blog. I will be sharing thoughts, creations, sustainable living tips, adventures and travels, yoga practice, recipes and much more. I want to have a network to share and learn with. Let’s share the knowledge, the power, the health and the wealth. We are all in this together.
