MODULE 1: DOMESTIC WATER

Domestic Water is the water that we see ourselves using in and around our home. In this module we will gain deeper insight to how much water we use, need and waste on a daily basis. We will learn ways to conserve domestic water by applying new habits and systems changes.

Eco-Action:

Conversation & Commitment - Have a conversation with everyone in your household and commit to these 7 Domestic Water Saving Habits that will cut your daily domestic water usage in ½!

  1. Tank Booster - Make and install your DIY toilet tank float booster

  2. Mellow Yellow - Flush every 2-3 pees & be sure to flush before bed! 

  3. Shower Bucket - Collect the water that is wasted when we are getting the shower up to temperature and use it to flush the toilet or water houseplants

  4. On & Off - Turn the water on and off when washing: hands, face, hair, dishes and teeth brushing

  5. El Natural - Decreasing hair washing to 2-3x per week

  6. Only When Full - Washing machines and dishwashers for full loads only

  7. Rain Wash - Let the rain wash the car and water the lawn


 

MODULE 2: VIRTUAL WATER

Virtual Water is the water we don’t see ourselves using but greatly depend on. It is the water it takes to grow our food and make our products. In this module we will get a better understanding of how much water it actually takes to live our current lifestyles and how to conserve virtual water based on dietary changes and product choices.

Get to Know Virtual Water - Based on the educational video and some personal research, what are 5 foods in your daily diet that are high in virtual water?

Eco-Action:

3 Dietary Shifts - Commit to these 3 changes for a month

  1. Decrease the water intensive foods from your diet:
    caffeine, sugar, chocolate, alcohol, juice, etc.

  2. Reduce meat consumption to half

  3. Switch to non-dairy milk aka oat, hemp, coconut or almond


 

MODULE 3: WATER CONTAMINATION

Water Contamination occurs when harmful substances contaminate a body of water rendering it toxic for human consumption. In this module we will be looking at the 4 Leading Causes of water contamination and what behavioral changes we can implement to make a difference.

Connection Exercise:

Taking Accountability - Acknowledge 5 ways you currently contribute to water contamination on a daily basis. Establish 5 ways you can modify those behaviors.

Eco-Action:

DIY Eco Tote! Get your favorite tote bag and fill it with the following items and, DON’T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT! You will be prepared to reduce single use plastic everywhere you go.

  • Metal Straw

  • Reusable Water Bottle

  • Travel Mug

  • Reusable Grocery Bags

  • Metal or Bamboo Cutlery

  • Tupperware

  • Cloth Napkins


 

MODULE 4:WATER FILTRATION

Water Purification is the process of removing contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, chemicals and pharmaceuticals from our tap water to produce safe clean drinking water. In this module we will cover why filtration is so important and how to choose the filter that is right for you.

Water & Your Health with Adrianne Ortiz of AMO Health

Adrianne is a published co-author in the International Youth Conditioning Association (IYCA) Big Book of Programs as the expert in Female High school Athletes Strength and Speed. Adrianne is a sports performance specialist working with elite, collegiate, and high school athletes. She is a professional lecturer for World Instructor Training Schools (W.I.T.S) globally certifying personal and group fitness trainers. She has designed sports programs for the YMCA, Philadelphia Sports Clubs, and provides strength and conditioning internships to Temple University Kinesiology Department. Adrianne was a former Olympic Developmental athlete for USA Rugby, a division 1 athlete, and studied at the Parisi Speed School, Velocity, and IMG academy and recently certified as an Underarmor Combine360coach.
