10 Reasons Growing Your Own Food is Badass

Growing our own food is truly one of the most badass, righteous & kind things we can do. It is an act of reverence, empowerment and connection. It helps us remember where real food really comes from and encourages us to rethink our food systems, realign our values and resolve the health of our two homes:body and planet.

Growing our own food gives us an opportunity to observe the extraordinary elemental dance of natural resources needed to create food on Earth. It brings the human experience back into the natural flow– getting outside, putting our hands in the soil, tending our gardens, observing change and growth, harvesting our crops, eating more vegetables and composting our waste. Growing organic food is beneficial on every level; purifying air, revitalizing the soil, feeding microorganisms, attracting beneficial insects, enriching our health, instilling family values, serving our communities and showing reciprocity to our beloved home.

10 Reasons Growing Your Own Food is Badass

  • More nutrient dense then store bought produce

  • Encourages us to eat more vegetables

  • Reduces toxic chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides from the food chain

  • Reduces the amount of fossil fuels used to transport food

  • Saves us money

  • Creates food security & self-reliance

  • Teaches us to eat with the seasons

  • Elevates our mood & improves mental health

  • Promotes physical health, exercise, vitamin D, fresh air, contact with soil

  • Helps us reconnect and deepen our appreciation for nature

In these uncertain times many of us are beginning to look at things through a new lense, including our food. What is in the food we are feeding ourselves and our families? Where is it coming from? How is it made? What are the ethics behind it? What impact is it having on our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health?

One way to get direct answers to these questions and increase peace of mind is to get a Peace Garden! Peace Gardens are an easy, fun, low maintenance way to get started growing organic food in your own backyard. By installing a Peace Garden we become less dependent on the often disconnected, disingenuous, destructive conventional food systems and start taking our health back into our own hands by feeding our families organic, non-GMO, real home grown food. The cost of your installed Peace Garden is much less than you would spend on organic produce at the grocery store, plus the gas to get there, plus the trash removal of your food scraps. Because with your Peace Garden you can get a Compost Tower which enables you to feed your vegan food scraps (with the exception of citrus, onions and garlic) directly back into your Peace Garden.

The idea behind Peace Gardens is to help jumpstart members of the community to grow organic food in their own backyard with ease. I come in like a little garden fairy and take care of all the heavy lifting while you sit back and learn from, eat from and grow with your Peace Garden. All you need to do is provide a 4ft. x 4ft. area that gets 8hr of direct sunlight a day and I will take care of the rest!
