A Deeper Reality

As many of us know social media can often portray our lives to look a bit more glamorous than our reality. Though most of my photos and posts are meant to remind us of the vast natural beauty alive internally and externally, there is this too. We also live in a world with so much greed, disrespect and imbalance. And how we handle that creates the role that we play in it all.

On my recent travels I observed the gorgeous land, waters and beings of Puerto Rico and got to see first hand the debris and destruction of the intense one-two-three punch they endured between recent earthquakes, Maria and Covid. And on top of all that it is a culture (like far too many others) that is seriously addicted to single use plastic. On the last day of my trip the Universe brought me exactly where I needed to be. I stepped onto a beach with a picturesque scene of teal water and small islands out in the distance but as I turned around the sand was covered in trash. It is such a complex issue and the trash and debris is symbolic of the multitude of struggles this island and it’s inhabitants have endured.

The visual sent daggers through my heart knowing it was only a glimpse of what a plastic-based, short sighted, convenience culture we have become. It was a reminder of how much trash is also beneath the surface killing innocent wildlife. I spent the next couple of hours going through some heavy emotions, sadness, grief, anger, frustration, blame, disappointment. I have been riding the wave of these emotions in terms of the environmental and greed crisis that we live in for the past decade or so. Luckily I have developed some tools to safely navigate these heavy emotions. I gave myself permission to feel the emotions and take action to help remediate the issue to the best of my ability in the present moment. I walked and I cried and I chose my role. I apologized to our dear Earth on behalf of myself and my species. I promised her I would do better and encourage others to do the same. Right then and there on that beach I spoke my truth to the sea and the wind, and I deepened my connection with nature, committing even more intensely to my work that I know in my soul is here to do. I dedicate my life to living for and taking care of this incredible home that sustains us. So, as I continued walking and crying I gathered as much trash as I physically could carry out and with the help of a few other good humans we filled a truck with trash and found the nearest dumpster. It didn't feel like enough (because it wasn't) but it felt better (because it was something).

So I ask you, what roll do you want to play? Will you stand with me to create a better world for one another, innocent animals, precious plants, mystic mountains, sacred seas and future generations. If so I want to inspire, help and empower you to do so. Over the course of the next few month you will see more in-person and virtual educational opportunities available for you to learn with me. I hope that you will take advantage of my services, joy and desire to become better stewards of this planet together. I truly believe that our actions as individuals, families and communities truly shape the world around us and together we have the power to create a better world. Please join me for my Earth Day Celebration & Workshop.
